On October 15, 2026, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica participated in the U.S.–Caribbean Dialogue in Washington, D.C., convened by the U.S. Department of State. The meeting brought together Caribbean delegations and senior U.S. officials to strengthen regional cooperation and address shared economic and security priorities.
The discussions focused on regional security, energy security, economic development, private-sector investment and critical infrastructure, alongside coordinated efforts to combat transnational organised crime, illicit firearms trafficking and illegal fishing.
A key outcome was the announcement of new U.S. funding commitments to support Caribbean security and infrastructure. These included $37 million to protect critical digital infrastructure and strengthen port security, $55.5 million for law enforcement, and $11 million in foreign military financing to enhance regional security capabilities. The United States also announced $175.8 million in investment for secure undersea cable infrastructure to improve digital connectivity across the Caribbean and Central America.
The dialogue also highlighted opportunities for American private-sector investment in energy, critical minerals, ports and digital infrastructure. In addition, plans were outlined for a U.S.–Caribbean Investment Dialogue in 2027, creating a further platform to explore commercial partnerships and regional growth opportunities.
For Dominica, these discussions are particularly relevant to its priorities in renewable energy, resilient infrastructure, climate resilience and disaster preparedness. Stronger regional partnerships can help create opportunities for sustainable development while supporting the country’s long-term economic resilience.
The meeting also reinforced the importance of translating diplomatic discussions into practical cooperation that improves livelihoods, strengthens public safety and expands economic opportunities throughout the Caribbean.
